The Truth About the iPhone and Bluetooth Technology
The iPhone Bluetooth Supported Profiles
The iPhone supports the Hands Free Bluetooth Profile (HFP) and the Headset Bluetooth Profile (HSP)
Listening to Music Through the iPhone and Your Bluetooth Headset
The iPhone is a music player as well as a phone. Unfortunately the iPhone does not support the stereo Bluetooth profile, also known as the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). Because of this, you are not able to listen to your music through stereo Bluetooth headsets.
This is something that a lot of people are upset about. However, some true audiophiles claim that the sound through A2DP is not as good as through wired headphones and think this may be the reason that Apple decided not to support the stereo profile.
iCombi makes an A2DP adapter that will allow you to use a stereo Bluetooth headset with your iPhone. So if you really want the ability to listen to your music through a stereo Bluetooth headset, you can!
The iPhone Voice Mail Glitch
Visual voice mail is a pretty cool feature on the iPhone. However, you may have noticed it does not work with every headset. If you have a headset that has Multi Point technology, meaning you can pair the headset up to more than one device, the visual voice mail is not able to work through the headset.
However, the iPhone's update 2.1 appears to have fixed this problem. So now, you should be able to use any Bluetooth headset with your voice mail.
Other Bluetooth iPhone Considerations
The first generation iPhone has a decreased Bluetooth range due to the metal case. This has been fixed in the latest G3 iPhones.
One feature that we really like about the iPhone is that it allows you to pair up more than one Bluetooth headset at a time and it is very easy to switch between them.
